Buckminster Fuller
Just Keep Launching!
Buckminster Fuller, an iconic designer, architect, author and futurist - spent his entire life intensely focused on design science and the pursuit of making the world work for 100% of humanity. His unique perspective on the evolution of technology in the 20th century convinced him that mankind could shift from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset. Born and raised as a practical New Englander, Fuller was by no means a techno-utopist, but nonetheless he held a profound confidence in the power of engineering and technology to constantly enable people to “do more with less.”
More than just a remarkable engineer, Fuller was a prolific, tireless and constantly evolving creative genius who immersed himself in housing, automobile design, geodesic domes, writing, poetry, mathematics, cartography, public speaking and global design strategy. In many ways he was the embodiment of the ROCKET Goals framework, living and working to launch one new project after another - rarely, if ever derailed by failures or setbacks.
His technological foresight enabled him to Remember his Future Self like few others, and as “anticipatory design scientist”, he consistently Owned His One Thing. Of course Change with a constant for him. In fact, many of his artifacts - models, inventions and ideas were built “ahead of the curve” with the notoin that they would be ready to use when technology and society was finally ready to put them to work. All of this activity was conducted in a spirit of kindness and exponential effort - leading many to call him a “gentle genius”. Last but not least, Fuller was able to inspire countless teams and organizations to help implement his various idea and inventions.
As we experience another outburst of technological innovation here in the 2020s, Fuller’s perspective, creative output and legacy of making the world work for 100% of humanity are now more practical and important than ever before!
