The Power of Tiny Changes
"You've got to think about big things while you're doing small things, so that all the small things go in the right direction."
- Alvin Toffler
The power of small changes can often be overlooked in your goal setting routine, especially if you’re aiming high. However, the power of Thinking Tiny has many important advantages.
1). Low Effort Momentum
A tiny change does not require supreme effort or days and days of struggle. It is also easy to stack a few small changes and quickly build momentum.
2). Low Cost of Failure
If your tiny change doesn’t work out as planned, the consequences are tiny as well.
3). Tiny Change is Good Practice
Tiny changes are an important mechanism for practicing big changes. At a molecular level, your brain doesn’t really distinguish between a “big” change or a “tiny” change. Getting good at tiny changes helps exercise the same pathway used for big changes.
4). Tiny Changes Can Snowball
Tiny changes have an attractive power that can quickly unlock other surprising changes that you weren’t really expecting.
5). Tiny Changes Can Be Easily Measured
A tiny change makes it easy to observe cause and effect. Did that tiny particular tweak to my routine or diet or strategy make a difference? By how much? By focusing on tiny changes, you can get clear feedback on what works, and what doesn’t work!
If you are running into trouble with your big ROCKET Goals, sometimes that means it’s time to focus on making Tiny Changes rather than on big changes. Tiny Changes are easy, and you can get started right now!
