Engage With Exponential Effort
Become a Broadcast Genius
“There is no difference between what you broadcast and what you receive. Become a broadcast genius. Revel in the beauty of what is around you with the singular purpose of feeling good.” — Abraham Hicks
Exponential Effort is about aligning your effort and mindset to achieve maximum output with the least effort. The goal is to find the minimum viable dose of effort needed to achieve your objective - no more, no less. Sometimes we call this being in the “sweet spot” or “in the flow,” or “in the zone”.
This type of relaxed harmony unlocks massive productivity without the typical feeling of exhaustion by tuning in to exactly what needs to be done in the here and now. Right now. These are the good NEW days. No looking back to the good OLD days. Focus and radiate singular energy towards the glad task at hand and watch how that pile of tasks melts away.
“When you believe something is hard, the universe demonstrates the difficulty. When you believe something is easy, the universe demonstrates the ease.” — Abraham Hicks
So what are some practical steps for creating this powerful feeling of ease around your effort - even if the work itself might be incredibly demanding and difficult? Keep in mind, embracing Exponential Effort does not mean you will not feel any pain or discomfort - rather your pain and discomfort will be moving you forward, instead of acting as a distraction or roadblock or excuse.
Here are 5 steps to set your vibration and frequency to thrive in the midst of tremendous effort and finish your work feeling satisfied rather than exhausted and beaten.
1). Broadcast Your Positive Energy
Everyone has different ways of showing up with good vibrations. Put on your most productive music. Wear your “get it done” outfit. Give thanks and gratitude. Say your prayers or affirmations. Send out the exact energy you want to receive back. People confuse Law of Attraction by thinking that it means you need to become some kind of magical human magnet that will effortlessly attract things towards you. The exact opposite is true - you need to be radiating outward with massive amounts of directed energy and finely dialed-in thoughts so that life around you responds to your exact frequency.
2). Tune Your Environment
Just like you need to carefully dial in your own mental frequency, set your physical environment to the same frequency. Sit in your zone of super productivity. Close the office door. Go to that “magic” coffee shop. Show up at that gym where you always get in a good workout. Clear away the visual distractions. Turn off notifications. The more direct harmony you can create between your internal frequency and the external reality, the more productive your work sessions will be. Think about it - a cook should strive for a beautiful kitchen stocked with all the spices and cooking utensils, while a writer should aim for a well-lit library with a comfortable chair, books, etc.
3). Write A List
Pen and paper remain cutting edge technology for focusing our attention. Don’t underestimate their power just because you can’t scroll through the page! Write it all out, circle the top tasks that align with your ONE Thing and then start crossing things out. It sounds like it’s too easy to be true - but this simple routine is a tremendous boost for prompting your human attention circuits.
4). Start Fast
No need for complicated morning routines. Get started ASAP on your ONE Thing and don’t stop until it’s done. Start Fast also applies to new ideas. Cut the path from idea to action as much as possible. Do some quick and easy tasks towards that “crazy” idea and see what happens.
5). Get Real About Your Feelings and Tolerance for Pain
Sometimes you aren’t making progress simply because you are avoiding some difficulty or hardship needed to get to the next level. Check your feelings and see what’s the hold up? David Goggins advocates for a dose of brutal realism in the midst of all your positive energy. "You must recognize what you are about to do, highlight what you do not like about it, and spend time visualizing each and every obstacle you can." This type of obstacle-focused exercise releases a tremendous boost of mental energy and directed action. Goggins continues - "It's a lot more than mind over matter. It takes relentless self-discipline to schedule suffering into your day, every day."
Conclusion
Exponential Effort does not arise in a vacuum. If you choose the path of comfort, you will certainly get comfort, but comfort has a way of melting away very quickly, forcing all kinds of panicked activity. Exponential Effort means choosing your path of effort ahead of time, recognizing that you will not be able to avoid the pain of dramatic change. The secret is to not make things more - or less - painful than they need to be.
Of course as Goggins observes - it takes incredible discipline to force yourself into making these types of changes. Sometimes it takes a knock on the door to get us going. For J.R.R. Tolkien fans, what makes the opening scenes of the Hobbit so relatable is that we can all appreciate what it’s like to be in our comfortable little hobbit home worrying about what we’ll eat for second breakfast. Then out of nowhere there is a knock on the door. “Who could that be, and what do they want?” we ask. Bilbo was feeling good that morning. Then, just two months later, Eagles were rescuing him and his fellow Burglars from a band of angry Wargs:
Then a month after that, Bilbo is fighting giant spiders. In the midst of this great adventure though - he still has longings the comfort of Bag End - “he sat himself down with his back to a tree, and not for the last time fell to thinking of his far-distant hobbit-hole with its beautiful pantries. He was deep in thoughts of bacon and eggs and toast and butter when he felt something touch him … like a strong sticky string...”
Becoming a “Broadcast Genius” means getting very clear and deliberate on where you are going and the kind of life you’d like to live. With your ONE Thing clearly in mind, work consistently and tirelessly to radiate that energy and effort - and don’t be surprised that things become more painful and difficult than you might have imagined. That is the nature of change. But the sooner you understand and embrace that, the sooner you can set off down the path. Second breakfast will have to wait.
