Exponential Effort

The Effort is the Reward, and It Will Really Suck

Andrew Huberman has had many interesting guests on his podcast, but few - if any, have packed the emotional punch of his recent interview with David Goggins. Navy Seal, athlete, author - Goggins has quite literally forged himself into one of the world’s most authentic and hardest working endurance athletes.

The E of ROCKET goals stands for Exponential Effort - but Goggins takes effort to an entirely different level in a way that’s both inspiring, humbling, and to be honest - more than a little intimidating and even frightening. While previous Rocket Goals posts have focused on how The Effort is the Reward, Goggins’ approach to effort requires a new but important addendum -
The Effort is the Reward, and It Will Really Suck.

“Acceptance of suffering” comes close to describing how Goggins approaches his workouts - but that makes it sound too theological or metaphysical. Grit might be closer to the point, but still not quite right.

“Effort at any meaningful level just really really sucks, but no shit, and so what motherfucker!” is perhaps the best summary of his mindset towards goal setting and effort, but In the end, there is little I can add or detract to this podcast. If you are at all interested in learning what it truly takes to push the limits of goal achievement, it is simply a must watch.
