Exponential Effort
Dialing Up Momentum, One Step At a Time
“At the end of the day,
the only thing that you truly can control
is where you place your attention
and where you place your effort.”
-Andrew Huberman
Every so often, exponential effort happens without a ton of planning, and without much thought or consideration. Things just seem to fall into place as we cruise into a zone of exceptional outcomes. There is nothing wrong with these magical moments - but the key to oversized success lies in learning how to perform in all those other moments when things aren’t quite so effortless or magical.
The good news is that capturing and re-capturing this level of exponential effort does not require ponderous deliberation or years of tedious practice. But, it does require a steady and clear-eyed aim towards the finish line, however far away or uncertain it might be. Your eyes can control your attention and thus drive your effort. Size things up clearly, be honest about where you stand, and then do the best you can with what you have on hand. The exponential energy may not happen right away, but the more you stack steps in the right direction, the faster the flywheel of momentum starts to turn.
One small step in the right direction is 1000x better than no steps at all.
