Own Your ONE Thing

How to Stay Dialed In!

“We think on FREQUENCIES. When you make a decision, you flip your brain onto a different frequency. You begin to attract whatever is on that frequency.
- Bob Proctor

There are many models and analogies we can use to think of intelligence, but tuning the radio dial remains one of the best and simplest ways for thinking about how to control your thinking.

1). When You Are Dialed to Country Music, You Will Not Hear Classic Rock
Radio stations have perfected the art of staying on brand and keeping their stream of content aligned to their niche format. This makes it easy for listeners to move the dial and find the content they are interested in. At the same time, it also narrows the range and scope of music that people hear. This can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. It’s the same with how we focus our attention. We need to narrow our field of attention to attain difficult and valuable skills - but it also means that we cannot be a music master of each and every genre.

2). Flipping the Dial Easily Locks into a New Frequency
When using the radio, we do not agonize or wonder what it will take to switch the dial. We just move the dial and find a station we like. In many ways, making decisions should become that effortless, especially if you know exactly what kind of music (aka ROCKET Goals) you are trying to listen to! Make the decision and lock in that frequency by “flipping the dial”.

3). Once You Find a Frequency That’s “Playing Your Music” -
Don’t Keep Flipping the Dial
Modern playlists and technology are MASSIVELY engineered to keep us scrolling and flipping and liking. This is great for the ad driven media companies, but TERRIBLE if you are trying to go deep on a particular frequency! Once you have dialed into your ONE Thing you need to SET IT and FORGET IT..!

Remember - you are not signing your life away forever by deciding on your ONE Thing - rather - you are creating a life where you actually can become exceptionally good and knowledgable about your ONE Thing. Eventually you will be able to branch out and listen to other types of music - but at first - keep the dial set!

4). How to Lock In on Your Frequency?
Just like with certain kinds of songs you like, your ONE Thing should be playing over and over again in your mind, and it should bring you the same amount of pleasure and happiness. “I’m stuck on you…” should be the kind of song you sing about your ROCKET Goals. In addition to playing your internal repeat loop - there are countless other elements that are aligned to a particular frequency.

As quick exercise - imagine the house or apartment of three different people really stuck on:
1). Cooking
2). Marathon training
3). Writing a book

Immediately, we can picture piles of pots and pans, or training clothes, or bookshelves and notes. It’s also not a leap to imagine which TV channels these people are watching, what stores they go to, and even what friends they hang out with. When you lock in on a frequency, it should permeate your entire existence, not just some little check list you make in the morning to guilt you into doing things.

5). Keep the Hits Going
It’s nice to keep playing your favorite song over and over. But like any rock band, you should keep evolving and writing and playing new songs. Recently, even Billy Joel - whose fans had a locked in a classic set of ballads from the 1980s, finally broke down and made some new songs! Being locked into your frequency does not mean turning into a lifeless fossil.

Conclusion
Owning Your ONE Thing takes attention, but it also takes a certain amount of just staying put and not changing the dial. At first this might be a challenge, but after a while, you will be “locked in” in ways you never dreamed possible. Make a decision and tune into the frequency of your ROCKET Goal, and prepare for lift off!
