Remember Your Future Self
Capturing Photos From the Future
The Visionary Path to Achievement
“In my mind's eye, I visualize how a particular sight and feeling will appear on a print. If it excites me, there is a good chance it will make a good photograph. It is an intuitive sense, an ability that comes from a lot of practice.
-Ansel Adams

The Story of Michael Phelps: A Testament to Visualization
To get started, let’s consider the story of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. His coach, Bob Bowman, helped Phelps develop a mental imagery practice, where he would visualize every detail of his races, including overcoming challenges. “Once you get in a relaxed state, it’s just like watching a movie,” explains Bowman.
“The key to visualization is that has to be vivid, and rehearsed many, many times. When Michael would get up to swim a major race, he had already swum that race hundreds of times.”
This practice became so ingrained that Phelps could virtually swim his races flawlessly in his mind before diving into the pool. His extraordinary achievements, including a record 23 Olympic gold medals, are a testament to the power of visualization in achieving one's goals.
