ROCKET Goals

How to Turn Your Smartphone Into a Magic Compass

The only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work, and the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking, and don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.
- Steve Jobs

In the 2000s, two incredible devices were introduced into popular culture. The first, a fictional and magical device, was Jack Sparrow’s magic compass, which allowed users to reliably steer to their true heart’s desire - no matter how dire the circumstances. At different points in the long running movie series, various pirate characters would realize the true value of Jack’s compass and try to steal it as their own.

The second magical device - the very real iPhone- was introduced in 2007 by Steve Jobs. In those “early days” of the mobile era, no one could imagine that the iPhone would go on to sell more than 2 billion units and have more than 1.5 billion active users around the world. There are few - if any - products in history that have reached so many people.

What if there were a way to combine these two devices and build a smartphone that could help unerringly steer you directly towards your goals?

It turns out that by reframing your overall mobile phone paradigm and giving a bit of attention to your smartphone home screen, you already hold such a device in the palm of your hands!

Not only did the iPhone go on to be a bestseller, but it defined an entire new category of smartphones. According to the latest research, there are now 7 billion active smartphone users, representing 85% of all humans.

But more incredibly - In terms of usage, we are on our phones for an average of 3 hours a day, and one study found that we typically have 150 sessions a day, and tap, swipe and click an average of 2,000 times a day! That’s a lot of touches!

Motivational speaker and writer Bob Proctor once mentioned that he’d take out his goal card and read it and touch it dozens of times each day. That is the power of repetition, reinforced through kinesthetic learning.

From now on, whenever you touch your phone, flash your major goals in your mind’s eye.

While there has been a great deal of study given to the distracting nature of smartphones, and their cheap dopamine rush - there has been little written on how to transform your phone into a true engine for personal achievement and progress.
