ROCKET Goals

Get the Work That Matters Done!

There’s two types of work that every entrepreneur has - You've got maker time and you've got manager time. Maker time is long blocks of uninterrupted time four to six hours. You only have 14 work blocks per week of this maker time. It's very very valuable. It's low urgency High importance work that's the stuff that moves the business forward.

Just like there are two types of work - maker time and manager time, there are also two critical parts to reaching your ROCKET Goals. Figuring out what really matters, and then actually doing what really matters!

Figuring out what really matters is part of getting clear on Remembering Your Future Self and Owning Your ONE Thing. Engaging with Exponential Effort helps to make sure you are doing actually doing what really matters!

However, a critical step that can get overlooked is how to get rid of and/or minimize everything else! In other words, you may know what really matters and where you want to go, and have the right rocket engines to get you there - but if there is too much extra stuff on board, you won’t get off the ground.

Here are five ways to eliminate unnecessary tasks and activities in your life so you can focus on what really matters:

1. Prioritize based on impact: Evaluate each task against your key goals and "ONE Thing". Focus on high-impact activities that directly contribute to your most important objectives. This is the work that actually matters!

2. Time-block your maker time: Schedule uninterrupted blocks of 4-6 hours for deep, focused work on critical tasks. Protect this time vigorously from interruptions and low-priority demands.

3. Delegate or outsource: Identify tasks that don't require your unique skills or expertise. Delegate these to team members or consider outsourcing to free up your time for more valuable work. You can also free up time outside of work - from cutting the lawn to doing the laundry - calculate how much it will cost to give you back large critical blocks of time. It usually is much cheaper than you imagine!

4. Implement the "two-minute rule": For small tasks that take less than two minutes, do them immediately. This prevents a build-up of minor tasks that can become distracting. If you’re not in the middle of maker time, just do it now if it is small but important.

5. Regular review and elimination: Conduct weekly or monthly reviews of your recurring tasks and commitments. Ruthlessly cut or minimize activities that don't align with your core goals or provide significant value.

It’s so easy for low urgency, high importance work to get pushed aside, especially when you have not eliminated distractions and time sucks from your life. Get serious about streamlining your life so you can launch with high velocity!
