ROCKET Goals
Throw Those Habits Overboard!
The intentional, noticed choices are obvious. “Vanilla or chocolate?” But most of the choices we live with are unseen. They’re expensive, challenging and invisible.
- Seth Godin
ROCKET Goals have a forcing function that is important to highlight. As Seth Godin so clearly describes, many of our choices in life do not have immediate consequences, nor do we even fully understand or appreciate their potential impact. But nonetheless, that little habit of X, Y, or Z - persisted in for 10 or 20 years, can lead to significant results, both for better or worse!
ROCKET Goals, by their very nature, will pull into sharp focus many of those little habits that are weighing you down or holding you back from escaping the gravitational pull of your current life. A simple example: if you decide to run a marathon, the habit of going out partying with your friends each weekend might suddenly become much more “visible”. Likewise, if you commit to learning a new professional skill, all that time you spend on social media will snap into focus!
ROCKET Goals require new choices, new habits and new actions. Inevitably, that means many other previous choices, both conscious and subconscious - will be forced to the surface. This does not mean that everything you enjoy and hold dear in life needs to be tossed aside in pursuit of your overwhelming ONE Thing, but to achieve full escape velocity, a lot of unnecessary baggage will need to be tossed overboard!
In fact, Runners World has a whole montage of “before and after” photos like the one above that show the impact that an exercise goal can have on appearance. Keep in mind, this type of transformation can happen with all aspects of your life and appearance as your ROCKET Goal forces you to move faster, stay focused, and come to terms with many of those invisible choices in your life.
The sooner you commit to launching, the sooner many of those habits that are sucking you down will get tossed overboard!
